Points of interest in the Black Forest

The Town History
In 1595, Professor Martin Crusius of Tübingen wrote: ”The town is quite beautiful. However, where the sun sets (in the west), the hills are so close that one could imagine throwing a stone from there to the market place.“
The municipal gardens are only a few steps away from the market place, almost seamlessly connecting the town centre with the Black Forest and the history of Calw. In this tour, you will learn about the work of the botanists, gardeners and plant hybridisers in the municipal gardens, enjoy the beautiful view of Calw from the “Gimpelstein“, visit the scaffold, the former place of execution, the old oak which dates back to the year 1750, and the “Wölflesbrunnen”, which was the favourite haunt of the poet Ludwig Uhland and which inspired many a poem.
