The Hoffnungsstollen show mine in Todtmoos is a unique excursion destination in the southern Black Forest that offers visitors an exciting insight into the region's mining history. Since its opening to the public in 2000, this former nickel ore mine has attracted tourists and locals alike.

History and geology of the Hope Adit
The Hoffnungsstollen looks back on a long and chequered history. Mining was carried out here intermittently from 1798 to 1937. The miners mainly extracted magnetic pyrites ore, from which nickel was extracted. The geological diversity of the tunnel is impressive: visitors can marvel at different types of rock such as granite, light and dark gneiss and the ore mother rock norite.

Visitor attraction with an authentic mining experience
Today, the show mine extends over a total length of 500 metres and offers visitors an authentic mining experience. The mine has been designed to be family-friendly so that families with small children can also explore the tunnel. Even the deep tunnel is accessible for wheelchair users, making the mine an inclusive excursion destination.

Guided tours: Regular guided tours allow visitors to learn more about the history of mining and the geological features.
Discovery tours: Visitors can discover real fool's gold on the rock faces and explore three other cross-cut tunnels.historical experience: The spiral staircases and narrow corridors give an impression of the working conditions of miners in the 19th century.

Equipment: Visitors are provided with a helmet and safety goggles on site.
Clothing: It is advisable to wear warm, sturdy clothing and sturdy shoes, as it is cool and damp in the mine.
How to get there: The show mine is located in Todtmoos-Mättle, about 30 kilometres north of Waldshut-Tiengen.
