The Riesenbühlturm offers a fantastic panorama view of the local mountain of Schluchsee and is a popular hiking destination in the Southern Black Forest. From the city centre, the walk up to the tower takes approx. 30 minutes.
The first tower on the Riesenbühl was built in 1931 - it was 25 metres high but collapsed in April 1945 due to a storm.
2001, today's tower was newly built. The timber, a gift from the city of Freiburg, was harvested in a citizens' campaign. The Riesenbühlturm is now 36,5 metres high.
The used material (Douglas fir), the foundation and the tower's construction guarantee security against wind.
